Taking a Look Inside Microphones

Superlux CMH8C here we see a large duel element diaphragm (Carnoid, figure 8, & omni) transformer balanced & no foam.

I highly recommend AudioHipster, Inc. [..Loganville.., ..GA../....USA....] for the expertise that personal attention is given to detail and recording criteria. In other words, Doyen is the engineer that has slated the absolute BEST drum sound in my over 36 years of appearing on mainstream and commercial releases in the music industry. Recently after my Sennhieser HD280 headphones broke I started looking for replacements. I was introduced to Doyen and AudioHipster.com thru a mutual friend who's opinion with gear I trust. In that I always try to test anything before I buy it and since I was local Doyen agreed to have me out for a listening party. Doyen and I tested a varity of headphones and campared them to the standards he and I both had available in our studios.

The sound of these headphones blew me away, and for the price they just can't be beat. I loved them so much that I bought 4 sets for myself 1 each of the HD-681 and HD-660's and 2 sets of the HD-668B's. Give Doyen a call these headphones sound GREAT. Also ask him about the killer mics... I will be adding some to my mic locker in the near future.

Hey Doyen,

I continuing to burn in the HD-668B and I am probably approaching the 100-150 hour range at present. Now here are some of my observations. The 668b is a very articulate and precise phone. The bass at this point has not come in at the quantity I believe it will in the end but impact is pretty tight. It is not totally free of sibilance as I had read on many accounts.

The 668b sounds rather closed in at this point and I guess being a monitor that is to be somewhat expected... However, on to my comparison to the 681...I am approaching probably 350-400 hours on the 681 and just in the last week or so it has crossed a threshold that is huge jump from what it was. I just feel even with it's sibilance problems they are so much more fun to listen to at this point. They have wowed me in the last couple of days with my Sony DAP...Bass, Mids, Soundstage are fantastic and the brightness has finally eroded away. Sibilance still a problem but has eased pretty substantially

I wonder how many people with this many hours of precise breakin have reviewed this headphone. I had a feeling it might take this much time to see what these phones could do.

You take away the sibilance on this phone and you might have a giant killer here.

I don't want to be premature on the 668B because I am going to continue to hammer these and who's to say after 400 hrs these might be great in their own respect. But as of right now I don't think it's even close as far as impact and realism. 681's win hands down.,,,but it ain't over. I will continue to advise as they accumulate time. I hope everything is going well at home and the business is doing well. I continue to accumulate hours on the HD-668B and continue to be more impressed as time goes one. I think it is a more precise and articulate headphone than the HD-681. I wanted to dip my foot in the pool of headphone amplifiers to see if it would help the HD-668B for MP3 play.

So subsequently I purchased a cheap FIIO E5 amp for my Sony NWZ-A816. At 56ohms most MP3's probably won't drive the 668B very well. Well, the results are really outstanding. This little device for the price is quite remarkable compared to all the cmoy and the like amps available for significantly higher prices.

I only have a couple hours on the amp but it really makes the 668's shine even to this point. Highly recommended to assist the 668's. It even makes the HD-681's sound great! I think the over exaggerated highs and lows maybe hold the 681's back but they are still a really fun and lively headphone. These are both winners but for on the go a headphone amp really takes them to a new level! Just wanted to give you an update! Take care Doyen! John

Thank You, and I hope all is well in Perth, The HD-681 are getting great reviews, they are very flat and sound like my AKG K240s but the 681 is clearer in the highs. They are the most comfortable, and for the money they cant be beat. some people like them better then the 668B ~ I like the HD-681 because they are flat sound amazing and they feel good, the 1/4 inch plug unscrews and the long cord is very durable., but is not removable as the 668B and both have easy replaceable ear cups. the 668B are just plain cool are smoother not the top end less volume. ~ My Favorite is the HD-681 for mixing critical listening, and classical music. All Superlux phones have different EQ curves, that is why I have 5 different models. They are not clones. they are Superlux... Finely Products you can trust why pay more. Just wanted to let you know that the Superlux HD-662F headphones are great value and excellent quality.

They are just as good as AKG's.

This pair has replaced AKG 141's for me.

They are priced at a true and real value, what a set is really worth.

My name is Chet Hinesley, I am a singer song writer and producer. I have produced, Jerry Reed, Doug Stone, Tony Joe White etc......and myself. The microphone is excellent on my small Vox amp. The arm clamp is pure genius. The PRA628 mic handles my blues tone very well and high levels if needed. I am very pleased with it's tone and response and feedback rejection. . For this can, HD662F, I cannot believe how excellent is it! Listen to

classic, it is even better in detail than my favorite mod Sennheiser

HD555->595, I even can hear the sound of players change their pages at the

background which I can not hear from senn mod senn HD555->595 clearly, how

amazing! I thought the senn HD595 is the best value audiophile cans in this

world, now, I would say it is Superlux, HD662F at least. It is definite a

reference grade can, no doubt. You can hear every note in detail, very

clean, I would say "crystal clean" as they promise. Excellent to use to

listen classic music. No wonder you recommend this can for me. How can they

make these excellent cans at this kind of price? It would be easily charge

several hundreds of dollars for this sound qualities.

In a fact, I am a Taiwanese (not a Chinese), I hear this company when I am

in Taiwan, it is a Taiwanese company with facility in China like most of

Taiwan's company, R&D in Taiwan, manufacture in China. I know they make very

good audiophile products, most of them is OEM, but I never try their

products. Through you, I know what I had missed for a long time.

Dear Doyen,

Thank you for your forward information. You show HD-669 on top and HD-681 on bottom, no HD-662 in middle?. Ha! ha! Nice ad over there.

Last night I use HD-662F listen to all type of music till 4:30 am. I just cannot stop. I never know all those music I have are so enjoyable. I found each instruments on their position so correctly. No more bothering over bass destroy musical clarity ( I mean “musical”). The soundstage is just right, players are just like stand before you and no feel like any mist or fog between. You are like sitting in a VIP seat, whole band playing just for you only.

The senn HD-595 is no match compared with HD-662F , especially when use to listen classic, jazz, new age, even rocks IMO. At first, I wanted to compare HD-662F with senn HD-595 , after then, I found it would be time-wasted. However, I can use some words to describe the difference between them. The HD-662F sounds like you are sit in record studio listening to instrument playing in highly detail with absolutely no any echo surrounding existing. Some might say it sounds cold or life-less, no, IMO, it just display the sound honestly (minimum colored as possible). The Senn HD-595 sounds like your sit in hall listing to whole band playing all kinds of instruments at the same time. It is clear but mix with something, a little bit echo? Some say that is called warmth sound if you like. If you like listen to music in hall, you might like the sound of Senn HD-595.

The Superlex definite is a real killer, a market breaker, and it will destroy all those famous big brothers on this headphone market. Once a customer have listened to their cans, he or she would ditch other brands’ cans. In fact, I did see a reviewer claim that he sold his senn HD650 (MSRP $650) after listening to Superlex HD-688B . A lot of reviewers claimed that the Grados’ are no match with The Superlexs’ at all. Grado’s are losing favorites to Superlex. Yea, I don’t miss Grados’ at all. You are kind of to compare them with those of $ 800 more cans., IMO, you are totally right!

Questions are, would they increase the selling price? Could they keep the offering when demanding steeply strong? Oh, man, this price, this product, it is just a Impossible offering. IMO, it is not stealing, it is robbing! I believe.

It will be terrible loss for those bought other brands’ cans with tons of hard earning money. HD-662F is just the can that I am looking for, for listening classic and jazz’ music sitting in studio with VIP seat. J
